My grandfather used to make the most delicious persimmon pudding. I have fond memories of the smell as it arrived at the table. When we collected this delicious fruit from the garden I noticed the interesting shape of the woody top or calyx. I always saved these tiny treasures, finding each one unique in its color and shape. Years later as a mother, I once again became taken with the simple persimmon calyx. Outside of my children’s kindergarten classroom was a beautiful persimmon tree. As I waited for the kids to arrive, the memories flooded my mind and I once again began gathering the calyxes and stuffing my pockets with them. At that time I had no idea what I would do with them but one day it all came together. In this piece I’ve used vintage wallpaper, a vintage roller screen, persimmon calyx, vintage sequins.
